It is one of the brightest nebulae, and is visible to the naked eye in the night sky. It is 1,344 ± 20 light-years away and is the closest region of massive star formation to Earth. The M42 nebula is estimated to be 24 light years across
Total Exposure Time 2 hours using red, green and blue filters and adding Ha hydrogen data. The Equipment used was Pier 1 @roboscopes which is a AD250 10" f6.8 Dall-Kirkham Telescope. As a camera I used the FLI ML-8300 Mono CCD 2x2 Binned. Focal length was 1700mm.
